Steve started working on his own guitars in High School. This soon spread to working on the guitars of friends who weren’t mechanically or technically inclined. Helping people’s guitars to play and sound better was, and still is, very satisfying.

After studying business in college, he attended the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery in Phoenix, AZ. His first guitars were a single cutaway archtop electric with self-wound pickups and a dreadnaught single cutaway 12 string acoustic.

During Luthiery school, a classmate who was already an accomplished woodworker, noticed Steve’s tool skills and attention to detail. After a few months of discussions convinced him to consider studying custom furniture design & construction when he finished at Roberto-Venn to round out his skill set.  

Steve followed Roberto-Venn by being accepted and apprenticing with David Powel, a European master furniture maker, at The Leeds Design Workshops. All manner of challenging woodworking and finishing processes became a life passion.

He jumped right into working as a custom cabinetmaker and historic building renovator professionally while continuing to work on guitars for family and friends.

After years as a cabinetmaker, building renovator, custom woodworker and luthier, Steve decided to work solo at his home shop. He has refocused solely on Luthiery to simplify his life while continuing to use his lifelong accumulated skills and love of woodworking and all things technical. After all, sitting still has never been his style.  ​​
